Kids Jiu-Jitsu in Broomfield, CO (Ages 6--12)

Help your child build confidence, focus, and real self-defense skills. A safe, structured program for ages 6–12 in a welcoming, family-first academy.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu That Builds Better Kids

Picking a kids' martial arts program is a big decision. You want your child to learn something real, not just collect trophies and stripes for showing up. You want them in a safe, supervised environment with coaches you can trust. And you want a program that actually delivers on the promises every martial arts gym makes confidence, focus, discipline, respect.

At Limitless, we built our Kids Jiu-Jitsu program around what actually works. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the only martial arts where children develop real, tested skills against resisting partners, safely, without striking. It's also one of the best-documented confidence builders in any sport. Our kids leave class tired, proud, and noticeably more focused. Most parents tell us they see changes at home within the first month.

Below is what our Kids Jiu-Jitsu program looks like, what your child will learn, who is coaching them, and how to book a free first class so you can see it for yourself.

Why Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for Kids?

Parents come to us for different reasons, bullying concerns, a quiet child who needs confidence, a rowdy child who needs focus, a child obsessed with martial arts movies, and BJJ delivers for all of them. Here's why:

It's the best anti-bullying martial art that exists

BJJ teaches children how to control a larger person safely, without striking, and without escalating violence. That means a confident BJJ kid does not need to throw a punch to handle a bully, they can defuse, control, and walk away. Schools love this. Other parents love this. And most importantly, it actually works.

It builds confidence through real skill

Children can tell the difference between earned confidence and a participation trophy. BJJ promotes kids based on what they can actually do, and those promotions feel earned because they are. The confidence your child builds on the mat is the confidence they carry into the classroom, the lunchroom, and the rest of their life.

It develops focus and discipline

BJJ is a thinking sport. Kids have to focus, problem-solve, and follow instructions to make progress. Parents of kids with ADHD, attention struggles, or excess energy consistently tell us BJJ helped more than they expected. The structure of class, bow in, drill, learn, drill again, builds a kind of focus that bleeds into schoolwork.

It teaches respect, for coaches, partners, and themselves

In BJJ, your training partner is the person who helps you get better. That dynamic teaches kids respect, teamwork, and empathy in a way few other sports can. Coaches are called by their titles. Older students help younger ones. Tapping out is honored, not shamed.

It's safer than most parents expect

There are no punches, no kicks, no strikes. BJJ teaches children to control situations through positioning and leverage, and at our academy, drilling is partner-friendly, live training is closely supervised, and intensity is always controlled. Most parents are surprised at how genuinely safe BJJ is once they see a class.

What Your Child Will Gain from Training

Confidence & Self-Belief

  • Earned confidence. Kids see themselves get better at something hard. That feeling changes how they handle every challenge after.
  • Confidence under pressure. Rolling teaches kids to stay calm when things get uncomfortable, a skill that pays off in test anxiety, social pressure, and life in general.
  • A quieter, steadier kind of confidence. BJJ kids don't need to show off. Knowing they can handle themselves makes them less reactive, not more.

Focus & Discipline

  • Sharper focus. BJJ demands sustained attention. Most parents notice their child's focus improving at school within the first couple of months.
  • Better self-regulation. Kids learn to manage frustration, control their bodies, and handle losing, all on the mat, all under coaches who know how to teach these skills.
  • Following instructions. Class structure builds the habit of listening, processing, and acting, a foundational skill in school and life.

Physical Development

  • Strength, coordination, and athleticism. BJJ develops the kind of full-body athletic foundation that helps in every other sport.
  • Body awareness. Children learn how their body moves, how to fall safely, and how to control themselves physically.
  • Healthy energy outlet. Active, structured exercise that wears them out in the best way. Parents of high-energy kids especially love this.

Character & Social Skills

  • Respect for others. Built into the culture of BJJ from day one.
  • Real friendships. Kids form genuine bonds with training partners and develop social confidence that transfers to school and beyond.
  • Resilience. Kids learn that losing is part of getting better, and that showing up tomorrow is what matters most.

What a Kids Jiu-Jitsu Class Looks Like

Our Kids Jiu-Jitsu classes are designed specifically for children ages 6–12, with age-appropriate techniques, structure, and energy. Here's what you can expect when you bring your child to class:

  • Bow in and warm-up. Class starts with a respectful greeting and a warm-up built around movement drills kids actually enjoy, animal walks, shrimping, rolls. Fun for them, foundational for BJJ.
  • Technique of the day. Coaches break down one or two age-appropriate techniques, escapes, positions, basic submissions, in language kids understand. Lots of demos. Lots of questions encouraged.
  • Drilling with a partner. Kids practice the techniques slowly with a partner, supervised closely by a coach. Partners are matched by size and experience for safety.
  • Games and challenges. Position-based games make learning feel like play. Kids reinforce what they've drilled without realizing how hard they're working.
  • Controlled live rolling (for kids who are ready). When kids have built solid fundamentals, they roll lightly with partners under close coach supervision. Always safe, always controlled.
  • Bow out and high-fives. Class ends the same way it began, respectfully, and kids leave proud of what they did.

Parents are welcome to watch class from the seating area. We have nothing to hide, in fact, watching your child engage, struggle, and improve is one of the best parts.

A Note on Safety

This is the question we get most from parents, and it deserves a direct answer. Our Kids Jiu-Jitsu program is designed around safety from the ground up:

  • No striking. BJJ does not involve punches, kicks, or strikes of any kind.
  • Partners are matched by size and experience. Kids drill with peers, not random matchups.
  • Coach-to-student ratio is kept low, so every child gets supervision.
  • Submissions and intense techniques are introduced gradually and only when a child is ready.
  • Live rolling is closely monitored and intensity is always controlled.
  • Tapping out is honored, kids are taught from day one that tapping is smart, not weak.

BJJ is one of the safest martial arts a child can train. We're happy to walk you through our safety practices in detail anytime, just ask.

What Parents Say About Our Kids Program

Limitless is an awesome gym with great coaches! They have amazing Muay Thai, Jiu jitsu, wrestling, mma and fitness classes. It is truly a family environment as everybody pushes each other to become better, and whether your looking to become a competitive martial artist, or just learn some self defense, Limitless has something for everybody.

- Matt K.

Great environment. Fantastic coaches and instructors. Actually help you learn the technique and provide a challenge at the same time. Definitely recommend this place if you’re trying to improve on yourself.

- Mohamed H.

I have trained at a few places and I am impressed with the level of training this place has to offer. If you are someone who is serious about this lifestyle, you need to come here. If you are someone who wants to just do it recreational, you need to come here, or if you are in between. The instructors are here to make sure you learn and the gym is welcoming. The first day on the mat, I felt like I was already apart of the tribe. So stop making excuses, get in and start getting that sweat going!

- Caid R.

This place has a positive environment with much more focus on camaraderie than most places I have been. The teachers here focus on their students and make sure you understand instructions. It’s not a huge place but that adds to it. I highly recommend taking the time to learn here.

- Ryan Q.

Fantastic gym to train at. Everyone is focused on technique rather than ego and the coaches want you to succeed no matter your skill level. Great for beginners too.

- David D.

I have been to a few gyms before Limitless and I have never felt so welcomed immediately. Everyone is very helpful and friendly in all of the classes. My 6 year old loves the kids class! I will never go anywhere else.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What ages do you accept?
Our Kids Jiu-Jitsu program is built for ages 6 through 12. Curriculum, energy level, and class structure are designed specifically for this age range. If your child is outside this range, give us a call and we'll let you know what options we have.
  • My child has never done martial arts. Is that okay?
Perfectly okay. The vast majority of kids in our program walked in with zero experience. Coaches are great at meeting children exactly where they are, shy, energetic, athletic, or struggling, and helping them grow at their own pace.
  • My child is shy / nervous about trying it. Will they be okay?
We see this all the time, and yes, shy kids do beautifully in BJJ. The structured environment, the one-on-one attention from coaches, and the supportive culture of the academy give nervous kids a place to come out of their shell. Many of our most confident students started off too nervous to step on the mat. You can stay and watch as long as needed.
  • My child is very energetic. Will BJJ help with focus?
Yes: and this is one of the most common things parents tell us. Energetic kids find a healthy outlet on the mat, and the structure of BJJ teaches them to channel that energy productively. Parents of kids with ADHD or attention challenges often report meaningful improvement at school within the first few months.
  • Is jiu-jitsu safe for kids?
Yes: BJJ is one of the safest martial arts your child can train. There is no striking, no kicking, no punching. Partners are matched by size and experience, drilling is closely supervised, and live training is controlled. Major injuries are extremely rare in our program.
  • What does my child need to wear?
For the first class, just athletic clothes, shorts without pockets or zippers, and a t-shirt. If your child continues, they'll need a BJJ gi (the traditional uniform). We can point you to good beginner gis (around $50–$80). Some classes are no-gi and just require shorts and a rashguard.
  • Will my child have to spar or fight other kids?
Not on day one. Sparring (called "rolling" in BJJ) is introduced gradually and only when your child has built solid fundamentals, typically several months in. Even then, it's controlled, supervised, and intensity is always managed by coaches. No child is ever pressured into rolling before they're ready.
  • How often should my child train?
Two to three classes per week is the sweet spot for most kids, enough to make real progress without burning out. Many families start with two classes a week and add more as their child gets more engaged.
  • Will jiu-jitsu help if my child is being bullied?
BJJ is widely considered the best martial art for bullying situations because it teaches kids to control a larger person safely, without striking, and without escalating violence. A confident BJJ kid usually doesn't need to fight back, their presence changes. And on the rare occasion they do need to defend themselves, they have real skills that actually work.
  • Can I watch my child's class?
Absolutely. Parents are welcome, and encouraged, to watch class from the seating area. We have nothing to hide, and watching your child engage and improve is one of the best parts.
  • What's the free first class like?
It's a full regular kids class, same warm-up, same instruction, same training partners. Your child will get a real taste of what training at Limitless is like. After class we'll answer your questions and walk you through next steps if it feels like the right fit.
