Women's Self-Defense Classes in Broomfield, CO
Real techniques that work against larger attackers, taught by experienced coaches in a respectful, judgment-free environment. Built for women who want skills that actually work, not gimmicks.
Self-Defense That Actually Works
Most women's self-defense classes are either choreographed routines that fall apart under real pressure, or they're built around techniques that simply don't work when you're smaller and weaker than your attacker. We've watched both and built our program to be neither.
At Limitless, our women's self-defense training pulls from the most battle-tested combat sports in the world: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (the art designed specifically for the smaller person to control a larger one) and Muay Thai (the most complete striking system that exists). You'll learn techniques that have been pressure-tested in real competition, taught by coaches who actually compete, and you'll learn them in an environment built around respect, patience, and your pace.
Below is what our program looks like, what you'll actually learn, who is teaching you, and how to book your free first session.
Why Our Approach Is Different
We teach what actually works, not what looks impressive
Our curriculum is built around grappling and striking techniques that work against fully resisting opponents. There are no flashy moves, no "poke them in the eye and run" tricks. Just real, tested skills that the smaller person can apply against the larger one.
Built around the reality that you're probably smaller
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was designed for exactly this scenario. Leverage and technique beat size and strength. That's not motivational speaker talk, it's the documented premise of the entire art. We teach the positions you'll most likely end up in during an actual assault and how to control, escape, and end them.
Pressure-tested, not choreographed
In our program, you'll drill techniques at increasing levels of resistance over time. That's the only way you find out whether a technique actually works for you. It's also why our students walk away with real confidence, not the false confidence that comes from never having tested what you learned.
A respectful environment, taught with patience
This is non-negotiable for us. No condescension, no "sweetie," no being treated like you can't handle the material. You'll work with experienced training partners who respect your pace and adjust intensity to your comfort. Many of our students start in our women's-focused training and grow comfortable enough to join our regular Muay Thai and BJJ classes alongside men.
What You'll Gain from Training
Self-defense is the entry point, but the benefits compound from there. Here's what consistent training builds:
What to Expect in Your First Class
Walking into a combat sports academy for the first time can feel intimidating, especially if you've never trained anything physical and aren't sure what you're walking into. Here's what actually happens:
- You'll be greeted at the door. Coach Rachel or another coach will meet you, give you a quick tour, and show you where to put your things.
- Wear comfortable athletic clothes. Leggings or shorts, a t-shirt or tank, and a water bottle. That's it. No special gear required for your first session.
- Class starts with a warm-up. Light cardio and movement, scaled to your fitness level. No one is going to make you do anything you can't do.
- You'll learn fundamental techniques. Stance, basic strikes, an escape or two, and how to fall safely. The coach will break down every step.
- Drilling at your pace. You'll practice with a patient training partner, and the coach will be there to adjust intensity, answer questions, and make sure you're comfortable.
- Zero pressure to do anything you're not ready for. If something feels uncomfortable, you don't have to do it. Period. You set the pace.
- You'll leave more capable than you came in. Even one session gives you useful skills and a clearer sense of what you're capable of. Most first-timers walk out smiling and wanting to come back.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Do I need any experience to start?
No. The vast majority of women who walk through our doors have zero martial arts experience, and many have never done any combat sports or contact training before. Every class is structured so beginners can follow along safely, and coaches break techniques down step by step.
-
I'm not in great shape. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Training will help you get in shape, not the other way around. You control your pace, and coaches modify drills to fit your fitness level. We've had students start with no athletic background at all and become serious practitioners. The most important thing is showing up, fitness catches up faster than you'd think.
-
Will I be training with men?
It depends on which class you take. Some classes are women-focused, and others are co-ed Muay Thai or BJJ. Many of our students start in women-focused sessions and add co-ed classes once they're comfortable. Co-ed training is valuable because, in reality, the people who pose a physical threat tend to be larger and male, training with men (under careful supervision) means your skills are tested against people who actually represent that scenario. That said, no one will ever push you into something you're not ready for.
-
Is the gym intimidating? I've never been to one of these places.
We get this concern often, and we take it seriously. Limitless was built around the opposite of the meathead-gym stereotype. No music too loud, no posturing, no ego. People are friendly, coaches are patient, and you'll see a wide range of students, different ages, sizes, fitness levels, and experience. Walking in for the first time is the hardest part, and after that you'll wonder why you waited.
-
What if I freeze up in a real situation? Will training actually help?
This is one of the most important questions, and the honest answer is: training is the only thing that helps. The reason people freeze in real situations is that they have no rehearsed response to fall back on. Drilling techniques repeatedly under increasing pressure builds the muscle memory and the mental composure to act when adrenaline hits. It doesn't make you fearless; it gives you something to do with the fear.
-
What about pepper spray or a personal alarm? Isn't that enough?
Tools are useful, and we recommend carrying them. But a tool is only as useful as your ability to access it under stress, and many situations don't allow time to deploy one. Physical skills are what give you options when nothing else works. The two approaches complement each other; they're not a substitute for one another.
-
What should I wear?
Leggings or athletic shorts, a comfortable t-shirt or tank, and a water bottle. That's it for your first session. If you decide to continue, we'll point you toward any additional gear you might want (hand wraps, gloves), but nothing is required upfront.
-
Will I have to spar or fight someone?
Not in your first class, and not until you're ready. Drilling is partner-friendly and supervised. Live training is introduced gradually and only when you've built solid fundamentals. You set the pace; no one is ever pushed into anything they're not comfortable with.
-
Can I come with a friend?
Absolutely: and many of our students started exactly that way. Training with a friend is a great way to ease into something new. Just give us a call or mention it on the booking form and we'll arrange both free first sessions on the same day.
-
Do you offer private seminars for groups?
Yes: we offer dedicated women's self-defense seminars for groups, organizations, real estate offices, schools, and sororities. We can tailor the curriculum to your group's needs. Call us at (720) 515-6319 to discuss what you have in mind.
-
What's the free first session like?
It's a full regular class, same warm-up, same instruction, same training partners as our paying members. No watered-down "intro" version. After class we'll answer your questions and walk you through next steps if you want to continue.
