Women's Self-Defense Classes in Broomfield, CO

Real techniques that work against larger attackers, taught by experienced coaches in a respectful, judgment-free environment. Built for women who want skills that actually work, not gimmicks.

Self-Defense That Actually Works

Most women's self-defense classes are either choreographed routines that fall apart under real pressure, or they're built around techniques that simply don't work when you're smaller and weaker than your attacker. We've watched both and built our program to be neither.

At Limitless, our women's self-defense training pulls from the most battle-tested combat sports in the world: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (the art designed specifically for the smaller person to control a larger one) and Muay Thai (the most complete striking system that exists). You'll learn techniques that have been pressure-tested in real competition, taught by coaches who actually compete, and you'll learn them in an environment built around respect, patience, and your pace.

Below is what our program looks like, what you'll actually learn, who is teaching you, and how to book your free first session.

Why Our Approach Is Different

We teach what actually works, not what looks impressive

Our curriculum is built around grappling and striking techniques that work against fully resisting opponents. There are no flashy moves, no "poke them in the eye and run" tricks. Just real, tested skills that the smaller person can apply against the larger one.

Built around the reality that you're probably smaller

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was designed for exactly this scenario. Leverage and technique beat size and strength. That's not motivational speaker talk, it's the documented premise of the entire art. We teach the positions you'll most likely end up in during an actual assault and how to control, escape, and end them.

Pressure-tested, not choreographed

In our program, you'll drill techniques at increasing levels of resistance over time. That's the only way you find out whether a technique actually works for you. It's also why our students walk away with real confidence, not the false confidence that comes from never having tested what you learned.

A respectful environment, taught with patience

This is non-negotiable for us. No condescension, no "sweetie," no being treated like you can't handle the material. You'll work with experienced training partners who respect your pace and adjust intensity to your comfort. Many of our students start in our women's-focused training and grow comfortable enough to join our regular Muay Thai and BJJ classes alongside men.

What You'll Gain from Training

Self-defense is the entry point, but the benefits compound from there. Here's what consistent training builds:

Real Self- Defense Skills

  • Awareness and prevention. How to recognize situations before they escalate, how to use body language and presence to deter aggression, and how to make smart decisions under stress.
  • Striking fundamentals. Punches, palm strikes, knees, and elbows that work, and how to deliver them with real power, not for show.
  • Grappling and ground defense. What to do when you're taken down or grabbed, how to protect yourself, create space, and reverse the position.
  • Escapes from common holds. Wrist grabs, bear hugs, chokes, mount, side control, the positions women most often need to escape from. We drill these specifically.
  • Decision-making under pressure. When to defuse, when to defend, when to fight back, when to leave. Real self-defense is as much mental as physical.

Confidence That Carries Everywhere

  • A different way of moving through the world. Once you know what you can actually do, you stop carrying the low-grade anxiety that comes with feeling defenseless.
  • Confidence at work and in social situations. Physical confidence translates. Women who train consistently report feeling more assured in negotiations, conversations, and daily interactions.
  • Composure under pressure. Training in controlled stress situations teaches you to stay calm and think clearly when adrenaline hits, a skill that pays off well beyond self-defense.

Fitness and Strength as a Side Effect

  • Full-body conditioning. Training is genuinely demanding, and most students find it more engaging than any gym workout.
  • Functional strength. The kind of strength that matters in real life, grip, core, hips, posture.
  • Stress relief. Hard to overstate. Class is a complete reset from whatever your day brought.

What to Expect in Your First Class

Walking into a combat sports academy for the first time can feel intimidating, especially if you've never trained anything physical and aren't sure what you're walking into. Here's what actually happens:

  • You'll be greeted at the door. Coach Rachel or another coach will meet you, give you a quick tour, and show you where to put your things.
  • Wear comfortable athletic clothes. Leggings or shorts, a t-shirt or tank, and a water bottle. That's it. No special gear required for your first session.
  • Class starts with a warm-up. Light cardio and movement, scaled to your fitness level. No one is going to make you do anything you can't do.
  • You'll learn fundamental techniques. Stance, basic strikes, an escape or two, and how to fall safely. The coach will break down every step.
  • Drilling at your pace. You'll practice with a patient training partner, and the coach will be there to adjust intensity, answer questions, and make sure you're comfortable.
  • Zero pressure to do anything you're not ready for. If something feels uncomfortable, you don't have to do it. Period. You set the pace.
  • You'll leave more capable than you came in. Even one session gives you useful skills and a clearer sense of what you're capable of. Most first-timers walk out smiling and wanting to come back.

Meet Your Coaches

Coach Rachel Fiddes

Lead Women's Coach

Coach Rachel has been training Muay Thai under Kru Ali since 2016 and is one of the academy's most active competitors. She leads our women's training and brings exactly what most self-defense classes lack: the perspective of a woman who has actually been hit, taken down, and rolled with people much bigger, and figured out how to win anyway. Her classes are technically rigorous, calmly delivered, and built around the reality of what it takes for a smaller person to handle a larger one.

Background: Active Muay Thai competitor. Trained under Kru Ali Hanjani since 2016. Former competitive soccer player.

Kru Ali Hanjani

Head Coach

Kru Ali founded Limitless in 2017 after a six-year professional MMA career. He trained Muay Thai under Sensei Benjamin Schissler of Serial Boxe and BJJ under Black Belt Will Ellis of Pagsuko Fight Team. Kru Ali contributes to women's training with the technical depth of a former pro fighter and the patience of a coach who understands that the right learning environment matters as much as the technique itself.

Lineage: Muay Thai under Sensei Benjamin Schissler (Serial Boxe). BJJ under Black Belt Will Ellis (Pagsuko Fight Team).

Affiliation

Limitless is an official affiliate of Serial Boxe Muay Thai (Sensei Benjamin Schissler) and the Shokunin Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association (Robert Wunderlich). The techniques you'll learn here trace back to legitimate lineage, not a self-certified "women's defense" curriculum.

Private Seminars for Groups and Organizations

In addition to our regular classes, we offer dedicated women's self-defense seminars for groups, businesses, real estate offices, schools, sororities, and other organizations. These are structured around the most essential skills and awareness training, delivered in a one-time or short-series format that fits busy schedules.

If you're interested in arranging a private seminar for your group, give us a call at (720) 515-6319 or use the contact form. We're happy to tailor the curriculum to your group's specific needs and venue.

- Matt K.

Great environment. Fantastic coaches and instructors. Actually help you learn the technique and provide a challenge at the same time. Definitely recommend this place if you’re trying to improve on yourself.

- Mohamed H.

I have trained at a few places and I am impressed with the level of training this place has to offer. If you are someone who is serious about this lifestyle, you need to come here. If you are someone who wants to just do it recreational, you need to come here, or if you are in between. The instructors are here to make sure you learn and the gym is welcoming. The first day on the mat, I felt like I was already apart of the tribe. So stop making excuses, get in and start getting that sweat going!

- Caid R.

This place has a positive environment with much more focus on camaraderie than most places I have been. The teachers here focus on their students and make sure you understand instructions. It’s not a huge place but that adds to it. I highly recommend taking the time to learn here.

- Ryan Q.

Fantastic gym to train at. Everyone is focused on technique rather than ego and the coaches want you to succeed no matter your skill level. Great for beginners too.

- David D.

I have been to a few gyms before Limitless and I have never felt so welcomed immediately. Everyone is very helpful and friendly in all of the classes. My 6 year old loves the kids class! I will never go anywhere else.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need any experience to start?
No. The vast majority of women who walk through our doors have zero martial arts experience, and many have never done any combat sports or contact training before. Every class is structured so beginners can follow along safely, and coaches break techniques down step by step.
  • I'm not in great shape. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Training will help you get in shape, not the other way around. You control your pace, and coaches modify drills to fit your fitness level. We've had students start with no athletic background at all and become serious practitioners. The most important thing is showing up, fitness catches up faster than you'd think.
  • Will I be training with men?
It depends on which class you take. Some classes are women-focused, and others are co-ed Muay Thai or BJJ. Many of our students start in women-focused sessions and add co-ed classes once they're comfortable. Co-ed training is valuable because, in reality, the people who pose a physical threat tend to be larger and male, training with men (under careful supervision) means your skills are tested against people who actually represent that scenario. That said, no one will ever push you into something you're not ready for.
  • Is the gym intimidating? I've never been to one of these places.
We get this concern often, and we take it seriously. Limitless was built around the opposite of the meathead-gym stereotype. No music too loud, no posturing, no ego. People are friendly, coaches are patient, and you'll see a wide range of students, different ages, sizes, fitness levels, and experience. Walking in for the first time is the hardest part, and after that you'll wonder why you waited.
  • What if I freeze up in a real situation? Will training actually help?
This is one of the most important questions, and the honest answer is: training is the only thing that helps. The reason people freeze in real situations is that they have no rehearsed response to fall back on. Drilling techniques repeatedly under increasing pressure builds the muscle memory and the mental composure to act when adrenaline hits. It doesn't make you fearless; it gives you something to do with the fear.
  • What about pepper spray or a personal alarm? Isn't that enough?
Tools are useful, and we recommend carrying them. But a tool is only as useful as your ability to access it under stress, and many situations don't allow time to deploy one. Physical skills are what give you options when nothing else works. The two approaches complement each other; they're not a substitute for one another.
  • What should I wear?
Leggings or athletic shorts, a comfortable t-shirt or tank, and a water bottle. That's it for your first session. If you decide to continue, we'll point you toward any additional gear you might want (hand wraps, gloves), but nothing is required upfront.
  • Will I have to spar or fight someone?
Not in your first class, and not until you're ready. Drilling is partner-friendly and supervised. Live training is introduced gradually and only when you've built solid fundamentals. You set the pace; no one is ever pushed into anything they're not comfortable with.
  • Can I come with a friend?
Absolutely: and many of our students started exactly that way. Training with a friend is a great way to ease into something new. Just give us a call or mention it on the booking form and we'll arrange both free first sessions on the same day.
  • Do you offer private seminars for groups?
Yes: we offer dedicated women's self-defense seminars for groups, organizations, real estate offices, schools, and sororities. We can tailor the curriculum to your group's needs. Call us at (720) 515-6319 to discuss what you have in mind.
  • What's the free first session like?
It's a full regular class, same warm-up, same instruction, same training partners as our paying members. No watered-down "intro" version. After class we'll answer your questions and walk you through next steps if you want to continue.
